Property re-inspection begins in County in March

Feb 26, 2020 | 6:30 AM

Starting on Monday, March 2, assessors will be travelling door-to-door in selected areas within the County of Grande Prairie to conduct property re-inspections.

County assessors will visit properties within the Town of Wembley, the Village of Hythe, and within Range Six of Township 72, which includes a portion of the Hamlet of Clairmont, extending west.

“County Assessors travel around during business hours, re-inspecting properties in selected areas checking that our assessment records are still accurate and up-to-date,” explained Chief Assessor Chris Gardner in a release. “If no drastic changes have taken place at a property, or there has been a recent re-inspection, they likely won’t be visited.”

Property re-inspection is a standard policy put in place by the provincial government. It requires all of Alberta’s municipalities to perform ongoing re-inspections, as well as complete overall inspections of all properties, in a five-year term. The assessments will determine the properties estimated market value, which will be used to calculate property taxes.

County assessors will be wearing photo identification badges, and may take exterior photos of the property as part of the assessment process. If residents aren’t home when an assessor arrives, they may leave a door hangar with information on how to contact the Assessment Department. Any questions can be directed to the County Assessment Department at 780-513-3952.

The information collected during re-inspection is subject to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act.
