New park permit eliminates location requirement, streamlines services

The City of Grande Prairie is rolling out the new Outdoor Site and Park Use Permit, in an effort to streamline services and improve customer experience.

Park permits were previously location-based, but the new permit removes that requirement and can be used for any of the 100+ parks in the City, including Muskoseepi Park, South Bear Creek Park (excluding the baseball diamonds), and the Montrose Cultural Centre. It can also be applied to downtown Grande Prairie and the parking lots at the Community Knowledge Campus and Revolution Place.

All City parks and outdoor spaces are available to book for events such as weddings, community events, walks/runs, festivals, and rallies. However, a permit is required in order to use any City space.

The new permit will also ensure that City Services prepare the location ahead of time, by mowing the grass, sweeping the street, adding garbage cans, or setting up barricades.

“Our goal with the centralization of this permit is really to make it easier for residents and community groups to make these bookings and secure their permits,” says Katie Biberdorf, Community Recreation Development Supervisor in a release. “With this permit process, the City can ensure public spaces aren’t getting double-booked and have the opportunity to provide additional services to support community events, such as mowing or barricading.”

The Outdoor Site and Park Permits are free to non-profit groups, and cost $50 for private businesses, groups, or individuals, with the exception of the Montrose Cultural Centre.

The Outdoor Site and Park Use Permit Request forms can be found at the City of Grande Prairie’s website, under the Permit, Licenses and Forms library.
