1600 attendees expected at Mighty Peace Teachers’ Convention

Close to 1600 educators have gathered in Grande Prairie for the annual Mighty Peace Teachers’ Convention.

Communications Director for the Convention Debbie Harris says they are coming from all over the Peace, plus B.C. and the Northwest Territories.

“Our numbers are pretty steady. We have grown a bit in the last few years as the population in this region has grown as well.”

She adds this is a great chance for the attendees to learn something themselves.

“Teachers will have a chance to explore and choose from over 200 different workshops. They get to chose which sessions to attend, which ones are going to best meet their professional growth plans.”

Harris adds this is a good time for teachers and students to get a break from the classroom.

“A lot of our families appreciate having the extra couple of days, maybe they get the chance to go skiing. (For) teachers, it’s a good time for them to get together and network with each other and possibly to have a bit of a break. It’s also really nice to maybe learn something new and end the year with new strategies or some new ideas.”

The Convention will run Thursday and Friday at the Comp and Peace Wapiti Academy.
