Athletics even series with Canucks, win game two 6-0

The Grande Prairie Athletics took care of business Thursday night in game two of the NPHL final, defeating the Dawson Creek Canucks 6-0 at the Coca-Cola Centre.

Paul Larocque opened up the scoring for the Athletics at 9:48 to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Braden Crone scored a powerplay goal with 5:27 remaining to extend the Athletics lead to 2-0 at the end of the first period.

In the second period, the Athletics powerplay took over and dominated the Canucks.

Riley Boomgarden and Adam Boytinck would both score powerplay markers for the Athletics to extend their lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.

The Athletics would add two more goals in the third, including one more on the powerplay to secure the 6-0 victory.

Athletics goaltender and league MVP Kiefer Smiley stopped 27 shots on the night for the shutout.

Game three shifts back to Dawson Creek on Saturday, puck drop at 8:30 p.m. Game four will be back in Grande Prairie on Tuesday.
