UPDATED: Postponements, cancellations, closures related to COVID-19

The County of Grande Prairie is closing access to its parks and campgrounds until further notice. This includes the Bear Lake, Demmitt, Hommy, Kleskun Hill and Pipestone Creek Parks. The Old Bezanson Townsite is closed for the winter season.

The Town of Fairview has closed all playground equipment located in parks owned by the Town until further notice. The Town is also asking people to keep a safe social distance while at parks and on trails.

Peace Regional 4-H has cancelled its Spring Rally that was set for April 25 at the Teepee Creek Ag. Events Centre.

The Peace River Regional District on the B.C side of the Peace has a long list of closures and cancellations. it can be found here.

Clear Hills County has closed its office to the public until further notice and all meetings and events have been cancelled, also until further notice. County staff are still available by phone or email. Essential services like water, wastewater, and road maintenance will continue.

The MD of Greenview says all of its buildings and offices are now closed to the public, effective immediately. Staff are still working. Phone lines are still open. More information can be found here.

The County of Grande Prairie is now limiting access to its Administration Building, making it only accessible by appointment. Residents are encouraged to use contact the County by phone or email. The County adds that Council meetings will remain open to the public, though strict social distancing and hygiene guidelines will be put in place in accordance with Alberta Health Services protocols. Grande Prairie City Hall and the City Service Centre are now closed to the public. People are asked to call or email if they have any questions. Contact information can found here.

The Peace Country Beef and Forage Association has postponed all upcoming events, including the Organic No-Till workshop at the ‘Afternoon with Akim’ event.

The Andrea Vavrek Dance for Hope has been rescheduled to June 6.

The North Peace Bracket Racing Association Spring Spectacular Car Show set for April 24 to 26 has been cancelled.

Saddle Hills County has closed the Administration Office and Public Works Shop to the public until further notice. Staff can still be reached by phone. Transfer stations are still open, but staff have been told to practice social distancing. More information can be found here.here.

The Town of Beaverlodge has closed has decided to limit access to the Town Office. Residents and businesses are being asked to contact the Town by phone or email, rather than coming to the office. Access will be allowed by appointment only. Please call ahead at 780354-2201. Council chambers will be open to the public during Council meetings, but hygiene protocols and social distancing will be in place. The public library, recreation facility, public works shop, and water treatment plant remain closed to the public until further notice. FCSS is also closed to the public, but staff are still available by phone. The Home Support Program is closed, so staff will not be going to homes or Amisk Court. The Town adds all essential services will remain operational. More information can be found here.

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce says all events, ribbon cuttings, and milestone visits are postponed until the end of April. The office in Centre 2000 is closed to the public. Measures are in place to allow staff to work from home.

GPRC has cancelled the Your Vision Our Students event set for April 6.

The County of Grande Prairie says its Community Services Building, Public Works Building. Wellington Resource Centre in Clairmont, the libraries in Elmworth, La Glace, and Valhalla, and the Shelve and Share located at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management are all closed to the public until further notice. Fire permits are still being issued online or through Fire Guardians, but there may be delays if a site inspection is required. The County has more information posted here.

Birch Hills County has closed its County Administrative Building in Wanham to the public until further notice. Staff can still be reached by phone or email.

The MD of Fairview has also closed its office to the public until further notice. Regular road work and other operations will continue.

The Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan has cancelled all weekday and weekend Masses. Things like baptisms are postponed until the pandemic ends. Confessions will be heard, but confessionals will not be used. More on this can be found here.

The Home and Garden Show that was set for April 17 to 19 at Evergreen Park has been postponed.

The Home and Garden Show, which was to be held from April 17 through April 19 at Evergreen Park’s Tara Centre has been postponed. It’s not yet known when the event will be rescheduled.

Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) has cancelled the upcoming Your Vision Our Students event for April 6th, which was intended to celebrate the Award Scholarship and Bursary donors. Though the event is cancelled, they do wish to thanks the donors, who have contributed over $420,000 towards Awards Scholarships and Bursaries to students last year.

Students are prohibited from going to school and classes at post-secondary institutions are canceled. GPRC says it will go to online classes, but details are still being worked out.

Licensed child care facilities, out-of-school care, and preschool programs are closed as well.

Long-term and continuing care facilities are being asked to limit visits to essential ones only.

All of these provincial closures are for indefinite periods.

The Montrose Cultural Centre, including the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie and the Grande Prairie Public Library, Revolution Place Arena, the Grande Prairie Museum, Heritage Discovery Centre, Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park, the Leisure Centre, the Eastlink Centre, and the Coca Cola Centre are all closed until further notice.

Centre 2000, the Centre for Creative Arts, City on 99, Golden Age Centre, Grande Prairie Curling Centre, Grande Prairie Indoor Soccer Pitch, Grande Prairie Live Theatre, and the soccer pitch and South Bear Creek Park buildings are now closed to the public.

Home Support is postponed until further notice. Anyone with questions can call 780-357-8753.

Transit Route 7 and the John Paul II Catholic School Charter Service are discontinued indefinitely because of the school closures.

City fire halls and the Community Social Development Building are all closed to the public. Anyone needing to go to these places should call ahead

The Kids Place Day Care at Dave Barr Community Centre is closed until further notice. The Community Social Development building and all fire halls are closed to the public. Please call to make arrangements if you require access. City Kids’ Klub After School programs within schools are also closed until further notice.

The County of Grande Prairie has closed its Playschool and Parent and Tot programs until further notice.

The Crosslink County Sportsplex is closed. All programs, drop-ins and contract bookings have been cancelled.

The Town of Peace River has closed the Peace Regional Pool, Baytex Energy Centre, and the Peace River Museum, Archives, and Mackenzie Centre, A Senior’s Tax Filing Event set for March 18 at Heritage Towers is cancelled. The program will go ahead, but people are asked to call rather than come in. Anyone impacted can call 780-623-1000, extension 1030.

The Cool Aid Society says its centres will be closed and officials don’t know when they can re-open. School, tween, and teen programs are all impacted.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Grande Prairie is closed until further notice.

The Hillside Community Centre, the home of the Army, Navy, Air Force Veterans Club, is closed until further notice.

Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue is closed to the public. The staff and volunteers continue to care for the 125 animals at the facility. Donations can be dropped off at the donation bin outside the front door.

The Grande Prairie and District Grief Support Association’s Lip Sync Battle has been postponed to June 19.

Several Revolution Place events have been postponed. That includes the Rednek Music Fest that was to be held March 20, the Tales from the Penalty Box fund-raiser for the Storm March 21, the Rodney Carrington show that was also set for March 21, and the George Thorogood concert that was scheduled for April 21.

The MD of Greenview has closed the Greenview Regional Multiplex, the Grande Cache Tourism and Interpretive Centre, and the Grande Cache Recreation Centre. All are closed until further notice. Any paid memberships will be put on pause. Monthly member payments are suspended.

The MD of Spirit River has closed its Administration Office to the public until further notice. Staff can still be reached by phone at 780-864-3500 or by email at mdsr133@mdspiritriver.ab.ca. The Public Works Department will continue with normal operations.

Wolves Athletics has cancelled the men’s basketball ID camp scheduled for Friday and Saturday, the women’s basketball ID camp set for Saturday, and the mini World Cup of Soccer that was to take place April 3 to 5.

The La Glace, Spirit River, and Dawson Creek Curling Clubs have all closed for the season.

The Fairview Regional Aquatic Centre is closed until further notice.

The 42nd Grande Prairie Petroleum Association’s Oilmen’s Bonspiel that was set for April 1-4 has been cancelled.

The 4th annual Teepee Creek PBR Classic set for Saturday has been cancelled.

The North Peace Hockey League final has been postponed.

The Northwest Junior Hockey League has cancelled the remainder of its season.

Grande Prairie Minor Hockey, GPAC and PCFAC seasons have been canceled.

Hockey Alberta says all provincials have been cancelled.

The Grande Prairie Gymnastics Centre is closed until further notice.

Powder King, Nitehawk and Whispering Pines Ski Hill have closed for the season.
