ABP, CCA working to keep beef trade going through the pandemic

Mar 22, 2020 | 7:00 AM

Alberta Beef Producers says it is working with the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association to keep beef trade going during the pandemic.

ABP Chair Kelly Smith-Fraser says they are working to safeguard markets and production.

“There have been no fundamental changes to the export and import of food and livestock outside of the increased precautions recommended by the government. No specific requirements have been put in place restricting bovine or meat importation and exportation related to the COVID-19 outbreak.”

She adds there have been no reports anywhere of livestock being infected.

“However, producers are encouraged to follow normal biosecurity measures and limit visitors on farm. Alberta has declared a State of Emergency and all events over 50 people should be cancelled.”

Both Alberta Beef Producers and the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association have closed their offices in Calgary to staff and visitors.

Staff will be working remotely and will continue to provide services to ranchers.

Anyone with questions can contact either of these organizations by email.
