County of Grande Prairie region adds first confirmed case of COVID-19

The County of Grande Prairie area has registered its first confirmed case of COVID-19.

The confirmed case was one of 57 the province of Alberta added on Tuesday, bringing Alberta’s total to 358. It was also the lone new case recorded in the North zone for March 24, which now has 20 confirmed cases.

That brings the health zone totals in the Grande Prairie area to three, with the two other confirmed cases being in the City of Grande Prairie. A breakdown of each geographical zone in the area (as per the province’s aggregate data website) can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie (city only): Two confirmed cases
  • County of Grande Prairie (includes Clairmont, Sexsmith and south of Grande Prairie, like Grovedale): One confirmed case
  • Beaverlodge (includes Wembley and Hythe): No confirmed cases
  • Grande Cache: No confirmed cases
  • Valleyview: No confirmed cases
  • Spirit River: No confirmed cases

EverythingGP could not confirm where in the County of Grande Prairie region the confirmed case is located.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw also announced Alberta’s second COVID-19 related fatality on Tuesday.

Dr. Hinshaw said the individual was a woman in her 80’s, who was living in the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary. She further went on to say that two residents and a staff member have also tested positive for COVID-19 in that same facility, while 11 others are showing symptoms.
