Grande Prairie to serve as backdrop of new film

The City of Grande Prairie is set to become the backdrop of a new film in 2021.

The Edmonton based company A Little Late Films is heading up Highway 43 next summer to film their latest movie, Spearphishing 2.

After discussions with city officials and scoping out sites, the owner of A little Late Films Tim McKort settled on Grande Prairie to serve as the setting of the film

“I’ve been through the area a number of times. I know the area and one thing we look for in terms of place, is the city environment versus the rural environment,” said McKort. “When I met with city officials three weeks ago, we had a really solid meeting and I got a sense that Grande Prairie had everything we needed, including that cityscape, dynamic vibrancy that you have in the city and also the ability to get outside and get into the rivers, lakes and valley. All those things combined encouraged us to say, ‘this looks like the right spot.’”

The movie is a sequel to Spearphishing, which follows a police officer who is involved in the local community and some Russians that fly into the area and are up to no good. McKort says there’s a lot of high action and excitement in the film.

The film is also putting out a call for casting crew members and they’re looking for people in the community to take part.

“The ability for us to get to Grande Prairie and manage everything from Grande Prairie is such that I know it’s got a vibrant community already,” explained McKort. “We always look to bring more people into the feature film process. What we do is go the full enchilada, so we’re trying to get people to experience that and show them that it’s not as daunting as they think it is, there’s a business side to it too.

Those interested in casting for roles in the film can email McKort at tmckort@hotmail.com.

For local businesses, there is also an opportunity to image, brand and promote your business in their movies, which McKort says are internationally released. You can check out the trailers of branding in previous movies here.

McKort says that they’re expecting to begin filming in July of 2021. It takes 18 months to create the film from the start date which includes planning, shooting, and editing.
