Mar 30, 2020 | 7:33 PM

A resident of Grouard has been identified as the North zone’s first fatality related to COVID-19.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced that one of five fatalities due to COVID-19 was a male in his 30’s in the North zone.

Following that announcement, Big Lakes County took to social media to send their condolences to the family of 34-year-old Shawn Auger.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you, as well as everyone in the community of Grouard,” reads the post. “We are a close knit community and this news will be hard for everyone.”

The High Prairie Minor Hockey Association also took to social media Monday to inform the community of its loss. The association states that Auger served as its Vice President as well as a coach.

A family friend of Auger’s confirmed to EverythingGP that Auger is survived by his wife and three children.
