Parking Fees Suspended

Province suspends parking fees at hospitals beginning Friday

Apr 2, 2020 | 2:46 PM

Starting Friday, parking fees at the QEII hospital and others around the province will be suspended amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The province made the announcement Thursday afternoon, citing a desire to reduce the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus from having numerous people touch the screens and buttons of pay machines.

They also don’t want frontline health care workers to worry about having to pay for parking during this time.

“Health-care workers and the general public should not have to worry about paying for parking in the midst of responding to COVID-19,” said Health Minister Tyler Shandro, in a release.

The province does ask that the public be respectful of doctors and health care workers assigned spaces and to not park in those spaces.

The province adds this will account for an estimated loss of parking revenue of $7.6 million a month province-wide.

Alberta becomes the second province to suspend parking fees, joining B.C.
