A resident of the Manoir du Lac continuing care facility in McLennan has died from COVID-19 related complications, as the province announced two newly confirmed cases at the facility on Thursday.

The resident was a man in his 80’s. He becomes the third individual to pass away from complications related to COVID-19 in the North Zone, and the 13th province-wide.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, announced one other fatality on Thursday, a man in his 90’s at the McKenzie Towne long term care facility in Calgary.

Dr. Hinshaw also announced 97 new cases have been added in the province over the last 24 hours.

There are now 968 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Alberta.

Manoir du Lac becomes the first long term care facility announced by the province to have confirmed cases in the North Zone. Seventy-four cases have been confirmed in continuing care facilities across Alberta, including 65 at McKenzie Towne in Calgary.

The two cases announced at Manoir du Lac are part of the four new cases announced in the North Zone Thursday, all of which were in the Falher area. It now has 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Dr. Hinshaw also announced that 32 more people have recovered from COVID-19 across Alberta, bringing the total number of recoveries to 174.
