A fourth person in the North Zone has died from COVID-19 while the Valleyview, Falher and Peace River areas each added one newly confirmed case of the disease Sunday.

It is not known at this time where Sunday’s announced fatality occurred, but Alberta Health has confirmed it was a man who was over 100 years old.

That death was one of three reported by the province for April 5, bringing the total number of deceased to 23 province-wide. One of Sunday’s fatalities was a man in his 60’s from the Calgary Zone, the other was a woman in her 80’s from the Central Zone.

The North Zone, which encompasses all of Northern Alberta, is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 for April 5, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 77.

Province-wide, 69 new cases have been added to Alberta’s total number of confirmed cases, which now sits at 1,250.

The total number of cases as of April 5 in the Peace Region can be found below:

After not reporting any new recoveries across the province Saturday, the aggregate data website says 279 individuals are now confirmed to have recovered. That is an increase of 83 individuals since Friday’s update.
