Green Shirt Day helps raise awareness on organ donation, recognizes ‘Logan Boulet Effect’

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Today is Green Shirt Day.

April 7 marks a day to recognize the legacy of Logan Boulet, one of the victims of the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

On April 6 of that year, 16 people were killed and 13 were injured when a coach bus collided with a semi- near Armley, Saskatchewan.

Most of the dead and injured were members of the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, part of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Following his death, Lethbridge’s Logan Boulet’s organs were donated, which in turn helped save six lives. What happened afterwards became known as the ‘Logan Boulet Effect’.

Over 100,000 people across Canada registered to become organ donors.

Green Shirt Day, in turn, is a way to remember Boulet and all those impacted by the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, as well as raise awareness about organ donation.

Canadians across the nation are encouraged to wear green to mark the day, as green is the official colour of organ/tissue donation and symbolizes the hope organ donors provide to patients.
