Five new cases of COVID-19 reported in North Zone Wednesday

Five new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the North Zone on Wednesday, as the province added 50 new confirmed cases to bring the provincial total to 1,423.

Three of those cases have appeared in the M.D. of Smoky River, bringing the area that includes communities such as Falher, McLennan, Girouxville and Donnelly to 27 confirmed cases. Twenty-two of those cases are active, three have recovered and two have died.

A new case was also reported in the M.D. of Peace, as well as Big Lakes County.

An updated total of confirmed cases in the Peace Region can be found below

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Three cases (Two active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 27 cases (22 active, three recovered, two deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 15 cases (Nine active, five recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Four cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (One active, five recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Active)
  • Mackenzie County: One case (Active)

Three more individuals were reported to have died from COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 29. All three deaths were recorded in the Calgary Zone.

519 people are confirmed to have recovered, including one of the three cases in the County of Grande Prairie. That is a provincial increase of 72 recoveries from Tuesday.

105 tests were completed over the last 24 hours for patients in the North Zone, meaning 5,612 tests have now been completed for Northern Alberta. A total of 66,783 individuals have been tested as of 2 p.m. on April 8.
