Temporary structure donated to Calgary hospital to provide more space for COVID-19 patients
Alberta’s Minister of Health, Tyler Shandro, has announced the donation of a temporary structure at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary.
Minister Shandro says the structure was donated by Sprung Structures, and will add 6,000 square feet of space for 100 more beds for Calgary-area patients.
Calgary currently has the highest amount of confirmed cases in the province at 860, and Shandro says the structure will be available to use in time for the expected peak in mid-May.
“Our health system is working around-the-clock to respond to COVID-19,” said Shandro, in a release. “This donation to AHS and the people of Alberta will significantly expand capacity and, ultimately, help save lives. I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Sprung Structures on behalf of all Albertans.”
