UPDATE: (5:20 p.m. April 14): Atco Gas has completed repairs on the broken gas line and all roads in the area are once again open.

Atco Gas and the County of Grande Prairie’s Regional Fire Service are currently on scene of a gas leak east of Grande Prairie, and the public is asked to stay away from the area.

The County’s fire department and Atco were alerted at around 8:20 Sunday evening of a natural gas odor in the area of Range Road 45 and Township Road 714A. Crews found a broken gas line in a treed area east of Range Road 45 upon arrival and are now working to repair the break.

All roads leading to that point are blocked off. Crews continue to work and it is unknown when those roads will re-open.

If there are residents who are affected by the above closures, detours have been set up at the following points:

  • Residents on Township Road 714 between Range Road 45 and 44 may use Range Road 44 north to Highway 670.
  • Residents on Range Road 45 north of Township Road 714A may use Range Road 45 north to Highway 670.
  • Residents on Township 714A may continue to use Township Road 714A east to Range Road 51.

The County says no residences are in the vicinity of where the leak is located and there is no danger to the public.
