Dream Home Lottery raises additional $47,650 for Peace Region Food Banks

Apr 13, 2020 | 10:43 AM

An additional $47,650 has been donated by the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie’s Dream Home Lottery to Food Banks across the Peace Region.

In late March, the Dream Home Lottery announced that during the month of April, 50 per cent of all Dream Home Lottery ticket sales would go into a COVID-19 relief fund.

The relief fund was started to help Food Banks in the Peace Region, as many were running low on supply and struggling to keep up with the heightened demand since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Last week the Dream Home Lottery sent $31,255 in cheques to local Food Banks.

The funds raised were given to the following Food Bank’s from April 6-12:

  • Salvation Army Food Bank (Grande Prairie) – $41,850.00
  • Sexsmith – $2,340.00
  • Beaverlodge – $1,420.00
  • Wembley – $1,040.00
  • Fairview – $910.00
  • Peace River – $710.00

This brings the total funds raised for Food Banks to $78,905. The Dream Homes goal for is to raise $100,000.

Another round of cheques will be distributed on April 20, two days before the lottery’s April 22 deadline.

In a release, Raffle Manager Kevin Hilgers says the relief fund so far has been a success.

“Momentum is growing. The COVID-19 Rapid Relief Fund has really captured the imagination of people. It’s given them an opportunity to support the community and dream a little. We are hearing from these Food Banks that the need is now. So we are moving the proceeds very quickly.”

Tickets for the Dream Home can be found on their website. If you cannot buy a ticket for the lottery, you can donate separately to the Food Bank
