Pandemic forces shuffling, cancellation of rodeos

All Canadian pro rodeos scheduled for May, and some into the summer months, have been postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled.

Rodeo Canada has an updated schedule on its web site.

Besides the Grande Prairie Stompede, the Leduc, Stavely, and Hand Hills rodeos to be held in May have all been cancelled. Drayton Valley and Falkland, B.C. have been rescheduled to August.

The Brooks, Rocky Mountain House, Sundre, High River, Airdrie and Williams Lake B.C. ones set for June have also been cancelled. There is a chance Williams Lake could be rescheduled.

The cancellations also include the July rodeo in Coronation and the August one in Jasper.

Saddle bronc events set for Innisfail in May, Wildwood in June, and Quesnel B.C. in July are also cancelled.

A rough stock event set for Red Deer in August has also been cancelled.

The next scheduled pro rodeo is now Lea Park on June 5 to 7.

The four events set for April had earlier been cancelled, postponed, or rescheduled. Coleman and Medicine Hat’s indoor rodeo have been moved to September, an event in Camrose has been postponed, and a bull riding event that was to take place in Tofield on April 11 was cancelled.

The Wildrose Rodeo Association has also cancelled its first three events of the year set for St. Paul, High Prairie, and Medicine Lodge. An event set for May in St. Albert has also been cancelled.

Organizers announced yesterday that the Cranberry Lake Rodeo set for the last weekend of June had also been cancelled.
