COVID-19 OUTBREAK

AHS takes over operations at Manoir du Lac amid COVID-19 outbreak

Alberta Health Services says because of the COVID-19 outbreak at the Manoir du Lac continuing care facility in McLennan, it has taken over day-to-day operations at the facility.

AHS says 26 of the 62 residents of Manoir du Lac have tested positive for COVID-19, while 11 of the facility’s 70 staff members have also contracted the novel coronavirus. Five residents have died from the disease.

“AHS will act immediately to improve outbreak control, as well as infection prevention and control measures, to address the site’s COVID-19 outbreak.”

During the daily COVID-19 update on April 17, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the move was made because the proper level of care was not being given at the facility.

“Public health determined the protocols for keeping residents safe and well cared for were not being followed. The health and safety of residents in seniors care facilities is of utmost importance.”

The provincial health authority says residents will undergo daily screenings such as temperature checks and symptom monitoring. Those who display any symptoms will be isolated in their rooms. Staff caring for any affected resident will wear proper PPE.
