Two new cases of COVID-19 in the North Zone Saturday as province tops 2500 cases

Two newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 are being reported in the North Zone Saturday, while the province as a whole has added 165 new cases for April 18, bringing Alberta’s total number of cases to 2,562.

Though there were two active cases reported in the City of Grande Prairie on Friday, Alberta Health has confirmed to EverythingGP that one of those reported cases was probable, but the test came back negative. There is now one active and two recovered cases in the City as of April 18.

There are two new cases being reported in the M.D. of Smoky River area (which includes Falher, McLennan, Girouxville and Donnelly), bringing that area’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 48.

The North Zone, which covers all of Northern Alberta, has a total of 137 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

A list of cases in each Peace Region municipality as of April 18 can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Three cases (One active, two recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (Four active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 48 cases (29 active, 14 recovered, five deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 21 cases (Eight active, 12 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Four cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (Two active, five recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: Six cases (Five active, one recovered)

One more individual was announced to have died Saturday, bringing the provinces total number of fatalities to 51. Saturday’s announced fatality occurred in the Calgary Zone.

Fifty-seven Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, while 14 of those cases are in ICU. The province says 1,162 people have been confirmed to have recovered from the novel coronavirus.

In the last 24 hours, 4,092 COVID-19 tests have been completed at the provincial lab, meaning 92,962 Albertans have been tested since the beginning of the pandemic.

7,580 tests have been completed for those living in the North Zone.
