Brooks resident charged, issued $1,200 fine for non-compliance with self-quarantine
BROOKS, AB – RCMP in Brooks have issued a non-compliance ticket to a resident required to be in self-quarantine within his home. This is the first such ticket issued in the city.
The 19-year-old male was located in Stafford Lake Park on Wednesday. He was charged under Section 73(1) of the Alberta Public Health Act and a violation notice with a fine of $1,200 was issued. Officers escorted the male to his residence following the investigation.
Cpl. David Searle of the Brooks RCMP said for the most part the community is following the rules and laws set forth by the public health orders. He added education will always be the first step officers take with those who don’t.
“We trust all Albertans will understand the importance of following health directions willingly, we all need to do our part for our own health and safety and that of all Albertans,” he said. “But we will use enforcement as a last resort as the circumstances require.”
