North Zone adds 14 new COVID-19 cases Monday

Fourteen new cases of COVID-19 have been announced in the North Zone Monday, while the province added 216 cases for April 27 to bring the province’s total to 4,696.

The new cases in the Peace Region were identified in the M.D. of Smoky River area, where five new cases were announced to bring the area’s total to 60. Two new cases were also reported in the Big Lakes County area to bring the total to 32 there.

There have now been 196 cases identified across Northern Alberta.

The updated list of cases in the Peace Region can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Two cases (Both recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (Four active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 60 cases (16 active, 34 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 32 cases (15 active, 15 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (One active, six recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 20 cases (19 active, one recovered)

No fatalities were reported in the North Zone for a fifth consecutive day, but two more Albertans have died over the last 24 hours due to COVID-19. Seventy-five people across the province have now died from the disease.

Four more people have been admitted to hospital across Alberta over the last 24 hours, meaning 87 people are in hospital at this time. 20 of those individuals are in ICU, the same number as both Saturday and Sunday.

Total recoveries jumped to 1,664 for April 27, an increase of 115 from Sunday. 128,860 Albertans have been tested of COVID-19 as of April 27, 10,301 of those people are Northern Alberta residents.
