Grande Prairie confirms one new case of COVID-19, North Zone adds six

The province has confirmed 190 new cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, April 30. Alberta now has a total of 5,433 confirmed cases.

Six new cases were identified in the North Zone on Thursday, bringing the total in Northern Alberta to 211.

The City of Grande Prairie has confirmed one new case of the novel coronavirus, making a total of three in the city, with one active and two recovered.

Two new cases were added to Mackenzie County, while ten of their previously confirmed 20 cases have recovered.

One more case as also been confirmed in Big Lakes County.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities can be found below:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Three cases (One active, two recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (Two active, three recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 65 cases (22 active, 33 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 35 cases (15 active, 18 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 22 cases (12 active, ten recovered)

Two additional deaths have also been confirmed in the province. Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, confirmed that a death previously attributed to COVID-19 was not in fact caused by the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths in the province to 89.

The number of total recovered cases has increased in Alberta to 2,161, an increase of 208 from April 29.

148,937 people have now been tested for COVID-19 in the province as of April 30. 11,005 tests have been completed in the North Zone.
