Winning names picked for RCMP police dog pups

The RCMP’s newest police dog “recruits” have officially been named following a nationwide youth naming contest.

The federal police service announced the winners of the 2020 Name the Puppy contest on Wednesday. The contest put out a call to kids aged 4-14 across Canada to submit their name suggestions for the first litter of German Shepherd puppies born at the Police Dog Services Training Centre in Innisfail this year.

All names needed to start with the letter ‘N’, with one winner being selected selected from each province and territory.

“Thank you to all the children who entered,” said Staff Sergeant Gary Creed, Senior Trainer and acting Officer in Charge of the Police Dog Service Training Centre. “And thank you to all the teachers who make this part of their class work. These 13 names will serve our dogs with pride.”
