The County of Grande Prairie is asking owners of residential and non-residential properties to report flood damage by July 3.

They are asking the owners to detail the damage to their property done by the overland flooding caused by the spring thaw, as part of applications to receive financial assistance from the province’s Disaster Recovery Program (DRP).

“In order to qualify for the program, the County has to provide details on the extent of the damage experienced within the municipality to the province,” said Director of Public Works, Dale Van Volkingburgh in a release. “We need property owners to provide us information regarding their uninsured damages by no later than July 3. The province will then review the application, along with environmental data, to determine if we qualify for financial support.”

If approved, the residents, businesses and the County will receive financial assistance from the DRP for any uninsurable losses from the flooding.

Property owners are being encouraged to take photos and document damages and costs not covered by insurance.

Some roads in the County were closed due to the flooding and flood-related damages, and they say Public Works crews are continuing to repair and re-open the closed roads. A list of affected roads can be found here.

Reports of flood damage can be made to the County through their website or by calling 780-532-7393.
