May 6, 2020 | 11:26 AM

Alberta’s police watchdog says it has been called in to investigate a police-involved shooting incident Wednesday morning near Leduc.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) tweeted that the incident happened south of the city this morning.

As of 11 a.m., southbound traffic on QEII Highway is diverted at Highway 39 and northbound traffic is diverted at Glen Park Road.

It is anticipated that the RCMP will remain on scene for several hours.

“We understand that the media and public have several questions and want details confirmed,” Alberta RCMP Corporal Laurell Scott says in a media release. “A statement will be made by the RCMP as soon as we have ensured that we have accurate information to provide.”
