Wildland fire brought under control west of Grande Prairie
A wildland fire that broke out near Hermit Lake Wednesday afternoon has been brought under control by area fire crews.
The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service, along with the City of Grande Prairie and Wembley Fire Departments, were called to the area west of the City at around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. Crews found the fire approaching a farmer’s field upon arrival, which was quickly brought under control. The fire damaged approximately four hectares of land.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a rock strike from farm equipment, but the County Fire Marshall continues to investigate.
No one was injured in the fire.
