Local glass company supporting food bank through plexiglass sales

May 7, 2020 | 5:30 AM

Standard Auto Glass is helping out the Grande Prairie food bank, as it is donating $25 from every protection shield it makes and sells, retroactive to April 1.

Owner Rob Kossman says he wanted to help because a lot of people are struggling right now.

“People that never thought they’d have to go to the food bank are going there at this time, so we thought since these shields kind of came up out of no where and they’re not really something we specialize in, that we would try and help out and give back to the community by selling them because it’s not something anybody wanted to buy to begin with.”

He adds while the material comes from Edmonton, the shields are made here.

“Me and one other guy here at the shop, we are building them pretty well all day long. That’s all we’ve been doing here lately. (We) build them all right in house.”

Kossman says the shields are sheets of plexiglass that sit on legs.

“They leave a little bit of a gap at the bottom there for people to still be able to get stuff across or whatever. It protects up to about six feet off the floor there so that everybody’s faces aren’t in contact with each other.”

Kossman says they will keep making them until there is no need for them anymore.
