Recoveries in Alberta top 60 per cent as province reports 54 new COVID-19 cases

Alberta added 54 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, while the North Zone saw a decrease of three cases to its total for May 7.

Cases in the North went from 229 on Wednesday to 226 for Thursday. The decreases come from two in the Mackenzie County area and one in the Big Lakes County area.

According to an Alberta Health spokesperson, location data for cases can change based on a patient’s area of primary residence shifting that to another area.

With that, cases in Peace Region municipalities as of May 7 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Four cases (One active, three recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 67 cases (12 active, 45 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 37 cases (Eight active, 26 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Six cases (One active, five recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 28 cases (Eight active, 20 recovered)

Two more Albertans have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities to 114 as of May 7. Neither of the deaths were identified in the North Zone, keeping the total at 15.

Testing confirmed another 257 Albertans have recovered from COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the number of recovered cases to 3,809. That means 63 per cent of all reported cases have recovered from the novel coronavirus.

Thursday’s totals come off 3,325 tests being completed over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests completed to 163,510. In the North, 270 tests have been completed over the last 24 hours for a total of 12,668 as of May 7.
