Some big names within the country music scene are coming together to help fundraise for STARS air ambulance with a virtual concert Friday evening.

With many of the air ambulance service’s spring and summer fundraisers being postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19, STARS will be hosting the Streaming for STARS concert and fundraiser, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8.

The Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society provides air ambulance services across western Canada and operates out of six bases, including Grande Prairie.

“We want to assure you that our crews remain mission ready at all six bases across three provinces and that your support of Streaming for STARS will directly help Western Canadians who live, work and travel across the Prairies,” said STARS president and CEO Andrea Robertson.

Names like Spirit River’s Aaron Goodvin, Grande Prairie’s Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Brett Kissel and Jess Moskaluke are some of the names on the “marquee” for the show.

“We’ll all be there because STARS needs our help,” said Moskaluke. “In these uncertain times, there is one thing for certain, and that is STARS is always standing by at the ready, waiting for the next patient who needs them.”

Other performers for Friday’s concert include:

  • George Canyon
  • Aaron Pritchett
  • Gord Bamford
  • Tenille Arts
  • The Washboard Union
  • Hunter Brothers
  • Dan Davidson
  • And many more

The event will also feature appearances from Hockey Night in Canada’s Ron Maclean, Olympic snowboarder Mark McMorris, Winnipeg Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey and actor Kim Coates.

The concert can be heard starting at 7 p.m. on Big Country 93.1 FM (CJXX) and on XM 105 in Whitecourt. The concert will also be live streamed on the STARS Facebook page, and online at streamingforstars.ca.

Those who would like to donate to STARS during the show can so by phone, text or by going online.

  • By phone at 1-855-516-4848. Lines will be open for the duration of the event.
  • By texting “STARS” to 45678 to donate $20
  • Online by clicking on “Make a Gift” at streamingforstars.ca.

“I’d also like to thank the numerous wonderful people that are coming together on May 8 for a night of fantastic entertainment,” said Robertson. “One hundred per cent of proceeds raised will support STARS’ life-saving operations at each of our six bases.”
