GPREP to launch PPE program for relaunching businesses

May 8, 2020 | 4:38 PM

The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) will be begin accepting applications next week for its PPE4Biz program, which will make personal protective equipment like gloves, masks and hand sanitizers available for purchase to businesses in the area in preparation for re-opening during stage one of the province’s economic relaunch strategy.

The program will launch on Tuesday, May 12 at 8 a.m. on GPREP’s website. Businesses that are then deemed eligible to receive some of the limited supply GPREP has available can then pick up the material between 1 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.

“As many businesses prepare to re-open to the public as early as May 14, implementing PPE4Biz is one of the ways GPREP and local chambers are working with businesses to help restart our region as safely as possible,” said Dan Lemieux, GPREP Director of Emergency Management.

GPREP says supply is limited and businesses are encouraged to apply early.

To be eligible, businesses need to be located in the GPREP service area, which includes both the City and County of Grande Prairie, Sexsmith, Beaverlodge, Wembley and Hythe. A Business Hazard Assessment also needs to be completed to determine the need for PPE ahead of re-opening.

Businesses are also encouraged to review the workplace guidance setout by the Alberta Government ahead of relaunch.

GPREP says they are also working for a longer term solution to acquiring PPE and are working with local suppliers.
