City of Grande Prairie down to zero active COVID-19 cases Sunday

Sunday’s data update on COVID-19 in Alberta shows that the City of Grande Prairie has no active cases as of May 10, while Alberta added 96 new cases over the last 24 hours.

The case of the one active case being removed from the City of Grande Prairie’s total, according to Alberta Health spokeperson Jessica Lucenko, is likely to do with the patient’s primary address being changed in the system, therefore the case is now attributed to another municipality in Alberta.

There was one new case of COVID-19 reported in the North Zone Sunday, coming in the Mackenzie County area. There have now been 227 cases of COVID-19 reported in northern Alberta as of May 10. Thirty-one of those cases are active at this time.

Updated case numbers in Peace Region municipalities as of May 10 are as follows:

• City of Grande Prairie: Three cases (All recovered)
• County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
• M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
• M.D. of Smoky River: 67 cases (Five active, 52 recovered, ten deaths)
• Big Lakes County: 37 cases (Five active, 29 recovered, three deaths)
• M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
• Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
• M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (All recovered)
• Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
• County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
• Mackenzie County: 31 cases (Ten active, 21 recovered)

The number of hospitalizations in Alberta once again decreased Sunday, as 71 people are in hospital across the province at this time. Two less people are in intensive care from Saturday, as there are now 15 people admitted into ICU. There are still six people in northern Alberta that are in hospital (none in ICU), the same total as Saturday.

There were 185 more recoveries from COVID-19 in Alberta confirmed on Sunday, meaning 4,389 people (70 per cent of all confirmed case) have recovered.

One more Albertan has died from the disease, bringing the COVID-19 death toll in Alberta to 117.

Sunday’s increase in case numbers comes as 3,608 tests have been completed over the last 24 hours, 264 of which came in the North Zone.
