One of two people charged in Peace River stolen property case sentenced

May 14, 2020 | 5:30 AM

One of two people arrested after a September traffic stop in Peace River that led to the recovery of some stolen property has been sentenced.

Kellie Laverne Ominayak of Peace River was given a 265-day sentence on May 6 after pleading guilty to seven of the ten charges she was facing.

All seven were for possession of stolen property.

She was given 264 days credit for time already spent in custody in connection with this arrest.

On September 22 last year, Peace Regional RCMP pulled over a vehicle with a stolen license plate. Mounties recovered what they called thousands of dollars worth of stolen property taken from residents and businesses. Several personal identification documents were among the stolen items recovered.

A second person charged, Evangelia Jordaine Noskey of Red Earth Creek, is due back in court in July.

In November, Ominayak was given a year in jail after pleading guilty to five charges related to a counterfeiting and forgery arrest from January of 2019 in Grande Prairie. Counterfeit cheques, fake IDs, cash and drugs were seized.

That investigation also started when police spotted a vehicle with a stolen license plate.
