No new COVID-19 cases in Peace Region as Alberta adds 72

There were 72 new cases of COVID-19 identified in Alberta Saturday, none of which were reported in the North Zone.

As of May 16, there are now 1,084 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, 17 of which are in northern Alberta. Sixty more people have recovered over the last 24 hours in Alberta, bring the total number of recoveries to 5,377 as of Saturday.

One more Albertan has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities in Alberta to 126.

Updated case numbers in the Peace Region as of May 16 are as follows:

• City of Grande Prairie: Three cases (All recovered)
• County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
• M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
• M.D. of Smoky River: 67 cases (Three active, 54 recovered, ten deaths)
• Big Lakes County: 36 cases (One active, 33 recovered, two deaths)
• M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
• Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
• M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (Six recovered, one death)
• Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
• County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
• Mackenzie County: 32 cases (Six active, 26 recovered)

Both the number of hospitalizations and ICU admissions decreased over the last 24 hours, as there are now 60 people in hospital in the province . Eight of those admitted patients are in intensive care.

There are two people in hospital in northern Alberta as of May 16.

Saturday’s increase in case numbers comes off of 4,594 tests being processed over the last 24 hours. As of Saturday, 193,098 people have been tested for COVID-19. 14,793 of those tests have come from northern Alberta, accounting for eight per cent of all people tested in Alberta.
