City of Grande Prairie now at three active COVID-19 cases

For the third straight day, the City of Grande Prairie added a new active case of COVID-19 on Friday, while the province added 32 new cases for May 22.

Active cases in Alberta now sit at 865 as of Friday, while 5,801 people have recovered (85 per cent of all cases in Alberta). Eighteen cases of COVID-19 are active in the North Zone, while 199 people have recovered as of May 22.

Updated case numbers in the Peace Region as of Friday are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Six cases (Three active, three recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 67 cases (Three active, 54 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 36 cases (One active, 33 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (Six recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 32 cases (Four active, 28 recovered)

Two more deaths were reported on Friday in Alberta, bringing the number of fatalities in Alberta to 134. The number of fatalities in Northern Alberta remain at 15.

Hospitalizations dropped from Thursday, as there are now 54 people in hospital in Alberta, with six of those individuals admitted to hospital being in intensive care. Two people in the North Zone are in hospital as of May 22.

There were 295 more people tested in the North Zone over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people in the North tested to 15,955. A total of 228,793 tests have been processed by the provincial lab as of May 22.
