No new COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie Saturday

There are now 19 active cases of COVID-19 in the North Zone as of Saturday as the Province added 18 new cases for May 23.

The new cases bring the provincial total to 814 active cases of the novel coronavirus. 5,869 Albertans have recovered from the virus, bringing the recovery rate up to 91.8 per cent.

After adding one new case each of the past three days, the number of cases in the City of Grande Prairie remained at three active and three recovered, while the County of Grande Prairie still has one active and four recovered cases. The MD of Greenview remained stable as well, with one active and one recovered case of the virus.

Of the three active cases in the City of Grande Prairie, two businesses have posted to Facebook over the past 24 hours stating that one of their team members has tested positive for COVID-19. One of those businesses was Ramona’s Pizza, which has since closed both of its locations indefinitely.

The other was identified at the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre on Saturday morning. The organization has since closed the Community Kitchen, but will keep all other programs going.

The updated case numbers in the Peace Region as of Saturday, May 23, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Six cases (Three active, three recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Five cases (One active, four recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 68 cases (Three active, 55 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 36 cases (One active, 33 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (Six recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 32 cases (Five active, 28 recovered)

One new COVID-19 death was reported in Alberta Saturday, bringing the provincial total to 135. 15 people in the North Zone have died from the virus.

Alberta’s hospitalization rate has fallen, with 48 people in hospital as of Saturday, two of whom are in the North Zone. Six of those 48 individuals are in intensive care units, though they are all located in either the Calgary Zone (five) or the Edmonton Zone (one).

Testing for the novel coronavirus has also increased, with 3,981 tests administered to Albertans in the last 24 hours. To date, 212,724 Albertans have been tested, and 232,774 lab tests have been performed.
