County of Grande Prairie adds new case of COVID-19 Sunday

The North Zone added one new case of COVID-19 for May 24, bringing the total number of active cases in the North Zone to 20.

The newly reported case is located in the County of Grande Prairie area, which now has two active cases to go with four recovered.

The City of Grande Prairie saw no new active cases for the second straight day Sunday, and remains at three active and three recovered cases.

Alberta confirmed 42 new cases on Sunday bringing the number of total active cases to 801. No new deaths were reported and 55 more people have recovered over the past 24 hours in Alberta, meaning 5,924 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Updated case numbers in the Peace Region as of Friday are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: Six cases (Three active, three recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Six cases (Two active, four recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: Two cases (One active, one recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 67 cases (Three active, 54 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 36 cases (One active, 33 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Three cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Seven cases (Six recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: One case (Fatal)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 33 cases (Five active, 28 recovered)

The number of hospitalizations in Alberta dropped by two on Sunday to 46, with six of those patients being admitted to ICU. Two more are in hospital in Northern Alberta.

4,015 tests were completed in the last 24 hours at the provincial lab. 16,482 people in the North Zone have been tested for COVID-19 as of Sunday, while a total of 216,168 Albertans have received a test as of May 24
