May 25, 2020 | 3:47 PM

A search of a stolen vehicle east of Fort Saskatchewan last week has led to drugs and weapons charges against a Grande Prairie man.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP say while patrolling around the community of Lamont at around 12:55 a.m. on May 20, a vehicle was found in a roadside pull-out. RCMP say they found the license plate on the vehicle had been reported stolen from Slave Lake at that time.

RCMP arrested the male driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, without incident.

While searching the vehicle RCMP seized over 30 grams of Cannabis, Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms) and a stun gun.

The 31-year-old Grande Prairie resident, whose name was not released by authorities, was also issued several violation tickets, including driving while suspended.

He is charged with the following:

  • Possession of stolen property.
  • Possession of a controlled substance.
  • Two counts of failing to comply with release order.
  • Possession of a Weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The man was released from custody with conditions and is scheduled to appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court on August 13.
