Three road projects to begin in the City of Grande Prairie in early June

May 27, 2020 | 12:44 PM

The City of Grande Prairie will be starting three road improvement projects in the first few weeks of June.

Starting on Monday, June 1, there will be asphalt overlay along 98 Street between 112 Avenue and 104 Avenue in the VLA/Montrose neighbourhood.

Alternating lanes will be open, resulting in minor traffic delays while the work is done. Construction is expected to last through July.

In the first week of June, full road reconstruction will begin along 72 Avenue between 100 Street and Poplar Drive in the South Patterson Neighbourhood. The work will also see a new sidewalk added to the south side of the roadway.

Traffic flow will be reduced to alternating lanes, and there will be minor delays for motorists.

Also starting in early June will be the full depth reclamation in the Country Club West neighbourhood.

Full depth reclamation involves pulverizing the existing pavement and mixing it into the road’s base structure. Cement and foamed asphalt are then mixed into the structure and compacted, and a new asphalt pavement structure is then placed on top.

The work is expected to impact 99 Street between 68 Avenue and 63 Avenue, 66 Avenue from 99 Street to 98 Street, and 99B Street between 67 Avenue and 66 Avenue.

The work in South Patterson Place and Country Club West is expected to be completed by mid-July.

The completion dates of all these projects are weather dependent.

Motorists are asked to exercise caution, follow all posted signage, and obey any sign-persons when travelling through construction areas.

The City is investing a total of $16.9-million dollars into roadway improvements in 2020.
