Police in Ontario and Alberta are investigating a pair of deaths that appear to be connected.

On Tuesday, May 26, members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as the local Major Crime Unit, and other branches of the OPP, entered into a death investigation at a home on Leesboro Trail in the community of Thorndale.

Thorndale, a town of about 13,000, is located about two hours southwest of Toronto, and is near London.

Police located one deceased male within the Thorndale home, with a post mortem determining the male died as a result of homicide. The victim was identified as Sean Collins, 27, a resident of Thorndale.

Then, on May 28, members of the RCMP in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta responded to a deceased male who was located in the North Saskatchewan River near that west central Alberta town.

Police say the man was Alexander Collins, 30, of Thorndale, Ontario, and that he died as a result of drowning.

It’s believed, but not yet confirmed by authorities, that a vehicle was pulled out of the North Saskatchewan River near the Hwy 11A bridge headed west out of Rocky Mountain House on Thursday.

It is not believed that there is any risk to the public at this time.

The Middlesex County OPP Major Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are working jointly with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Major Crime Unit in Alberta on this homicide investigation and police are encouraging anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
