Three people charged after shots fired at High Prairie RCMP

Jun 5, 2020 | 2:25 PM

High Prairie RCMP say three people have been charged after an incident Sunday where police say Mounties were shot at.

RCMP says they were called to a traffic complaint at around 2 a.m. that day, one that led to shots being fired at RCMP members. No one was hurt.

The vehicle was later found abandoned near the rodeo grounds. A .22 calibre semi-automatic rifle and a replica handgun were seized. Police are looking into where the guns came from.

Police dogs and helicopters were called in to help track down the suspects, with all three being located and arrested.

Twenty-nine-year old Courtney Michelle Cunningham of Edmonton and 32-year old Kenny Manichoose of Valleyview are each facing nine charges, six of those related to weapons.

Thirty-seven-year old Archie Peter Papastesis also of Valleyview is facing eight charges, six of those firearms offences.

All three have been released with conditions.

Cunningham is due in court June 15, the other two on July 13.
