Three road projects underway in the County of Grande Prairie

Commuters may wind up facing some delays, as crews begin three road rehabilitation projects in the County of Grande Prairie.

A rehabilitation project that involves four phases will see 108B Avenue, 109 Avenue, and 96 Street in Clairmont’s Wynngate subdivision get paved. The work will be done in stages to reduce the impact to the commuters, and will begin with the paving of 108B Avenue.

During the course of the work, detours will be set up, and there will be temporary closures to traffic and street parking. Foot traffic will still be permitted in the areas, except for in marked construction zones. All four phases of the paving work is expected to be completed by mid-July, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, base paving is underway on Township Road 712, from Range Road 75 to Range Road 64, southeast of Wembley. The work involves removing the top layer of gravel, repairing the base of the road, packing the current road surface, and then paving a layer of asphalt overtop. The base paving is expected to be finished in mid-August.

Grading work is also underway on Township Road 730, from Range Road 63 to Range Road 64, north of Ferguson Lake and northwest of Clairmont. Grading involves digging out the existing road structure to re-align level, widen the road, or build a completely new road. The grading work is expected to last through the entire construction season.

Traffic may be affected in these areas while construction is underway, with minor delays expected, as well as the possibility of having traffic reduced to single alternating lanes. Drivers are asked to obey all signs and flag persons, and to exercise caution while in construction zones.
