Two teens drown in river south of Lethbridge, search continues for third
CARDSTON COUNTY, AB – What began as an ordinary outing for a group of teens turned deadly on the swollen St. Mary River Wednesday night and has left an area Hutterite Colony in mourning.
The group, consisting of four boys and six girls from the Spring Valley Hutterite Colony were swimming and boating with aluminum boats on the very swollen river.
Around 7:30 p.m., three of the girls were in rough water while in the boat, which capsized and left the girls struggling to get out of the water.
Officers from the Raymond/Magrath detachment as well as Milk River RCMP responded around 10:30 p.m. to a call to assist EMS for a drowning in the area of Spring Coulee.
