More than three-quarters of the Peace Region crop rated good to excellent

Alberta Agriculture’s crop report dated June 16 says 77.2 per cent of the Peace Region crop was rated in good to excellent condition.

That includes 81 per cent of the spring wheat, 77.6 per cent of the canola, 76.4 per cent of the oats, 73.9 per cent of the barley and 71.4 per cent of the dry peas.

The overall five-year average for a good to excellent rating this time of year is 62.5 per cent.

The report also says crop development is behind normal and some crops are showing signs of too much moisture.

The report says anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain was reported the Peace between June 9 and 16 and excessive moisture is an issue form some producers.

Spraying was 24 per cent complete as of Tuesday.

Eighty-six per cent of the tame hay is rated good to excellent.
