UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Watch ended for Peace Region

UPDATE (6:42 p.m. June 20): Environment Canada has ended the severe thunderstorm watch for the Peace Region.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a majority of Northwestern Alberta.

Areas placed under the watch include Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Hythe, Valleyview, Fairview, Peace River, High Prairie, Manning, High Level, Fox Creek, Whitecourt, Edson, and surrounding communities.

According to the weather agency, thunderstorms will develop Saturday afternoon along a surface trough from Rainbow Lake southeast towards Airdrie.
