Storm acquire Broadhurst and Howie from BCHL’s Capitals for Murphy-Johnson and future considerations

Jun 29, 2020 | 12:56 PM

Grande Prairie Storm Head Coach and General Manager Mike Vandekamp continued his busy offseason on Monday.

The Storm traded defenceman Jackson Murphy-Johnson and future considerations to the Cowichan Capitals of the BCHL in exchange for forward Cole Broadhurst and defenceman Johnny Howie.

Broadhurst is 19 years old from Ladysmith, B.C. He registered 17 points in 56 games for the Capitals last season.

Howie is 18 years old and from Carp, Ontario. He had 7 points in 41 games for the Caps in 2019-20.

Broadhurst and Howie both know Vandekamp well, as he coached both of them last season while he was Head Coach and GM of the Capitals. Vandekamp spent two seasons with the Capitals.

This trade is one of several moves made by the Storm in the last week.

On June 23, the team pulled off a big trade with the Penticton Vees of the BCHL, where they swapped goaltenders, acquiring former WHL goaltender Carl Stankowski for Kaeden Lane.

The team also acquired defenceman Cameron Vassos from the Collingwood Colts of the Ontario Junior Hockey League on June 24, in exchange for future considerations.
