Canada Day fireworks, reverse parade in Grande Prairie postponed to Saturday

Jun 30, 2020 | 2:13 PM

With a rainfall warning forecasting a very wet Canada Day in Grande Prairie, the City has decided to postpone its fireworks shows and reverse parade until Saturday, July 4.

Hayley Kramps with the City of Grande Prairie says postponing Wednesday’s events was necessary.

“We’ve got a lot of great opportunities planned and we are working with a lot of great community partners and we felt that the rain and the inclement weather would really put a damper on our celebrations. So, we made the decision to move it to Saturday in order to provide the community with the best possible chance to have a great celebration.”

The City says that it’s reverse parade route will stay the same and run from 1-4 p.m. The antique car show will also be available for viewing on the south side of 100 Avenue.

The double fireworks displays, slated to go at both Muskoseepi Park and the CKC East football field, will go at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday night.

Kramps tells EverythingGP that it’s recommend that those attending the fireworks display show up 30-45 minutes before the start to get a good viewing spot.

Guests that are showing up at the CKC Campus to view the fireworks are being advised to park on the west side of the parking lot. The Coca-Cola Centre side of the parking lot will not be open for parking. If the west side of the parking lot is full, guests are advised to find a parking lot wherever they can get a good viewing of the show.

At Muskoseepi Park people are encouraged to park in surrounding parking lots as well.

The City of Grande Prairie also confirmed that washroom facilities will be available for those attending the fireworks display.

Public washrooms will be open inside the CKC grandstand. The Ernie Radbourne Pavilion washrooms at Muskoseepi Park will also be open for use.

People are reminded to remain inside their vehicles for the duration of the show.

The City says any further updates will be posted to its Facebook and Twitter feeds.
