Canada Day rainfall records topped across Peace Region
The rainfall on Canada Day has unofficially set a new record for the amount of rainfall for any July 1 in Grande Prairie and across much of the Peace Region.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, 37.1 mm of rain drenched the Swan City, crushing the previous record of 23.4 mm set back on Canada Day in 1983.
That adds on to the 8.9 mm that fell on Tuesday, with another five mm forecasted to fall on Thursday.
Unofficial Canada Day records were also shattered across the Peace Region, including in Beaverlodge, Peace River, High Level, Grande Cache. The Grande Cache area saw the highest amount of rainfall among the aforementioned communities on Wednesday, seeing 57.1 mm of precipitation.
