Two arrested, one charged following dangerous driving incident near Peace River

Two males were arrested, and one was charged on Monday, June 29 following a dangerous vehicle pursuit and police car ramming in the Weberville area.

At 9:58 p.m. that day, Peace Regional RCMP responded to a 911 call of a pickup truck driving dangerously in the Weberville area.

The truck was reportedly seen crossing the centre line and driving in and out of the ditch.

RCMP officers located the suspected vehicle and took evasive action to avoid a collision as the truck drove towards the police vehicle.

RCMP attempted a traffic stop, but the truck flew by it. Shortly after a pursuit was initiated.

While on the pursuit, police were able to deploy a successful tire deflation device. The truck then entered the ditch and continued driving and twice rammed into a pursuing police vehicle.

The truck continued to keep driving on rims at slow speeds for a long distance before colliding with a second police vehicle, which caused minor damage to it, before finally coming to a stop.

The two men in the vehicle were arrested shortly after the truck came to a stop.

A search of the truck subsequent to the arrests led RCMP to recovering previously stolen property which has since been returned to its owner.

RCMP say that none of their officers were injured in the pursuit.

Thirty-seven year-old Trevor Ryan Unrau is now charged with seven criminal offences and one provincial traffic offence, which include:

• Two counts of assault with a weapon.
• Dangerous driving.
• Flight from police.
• Impaired operation of a conveyance.
• Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.
• Possession of property obtained by crime.

Unrau was released on bail with conditions, following a judicial interim hearing. He remains in custody pending payment of his bail.

Unrau is scheduled to appear in Peace River court on August 17.
