M.D. of Smoky River area back to zero active cases of COVID-19

The M.D. of Smoky River area returned to zero active cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as the province added 46 new cases.

In the Peace Region, there remains one active case in the City of Grande Prairie, Clear Hills County and the County of Northern Lights. There remains five active cases in the Big Lakes County area.

There was one new case identified in the Mackenzie County area on Wednesday, which now has eight active cases of COVID-19 to go along with 35 recovered cases.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day July 7 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 17 cases (One active, 16 recovered)
  • County of Grande Prairie: Seven cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: One case (Recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 72 cases (62 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 44 cases (Five active, 34 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: Five cases (All recovered)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Four cases (All recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: Six cases (All recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: Ten cases (One active, nine recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: One case (Active)
  • Mackenzie County: 43 cases (Eight active, 35 recovered)

Active cases in Alberta dropped to 608 as of end of day July 7, while 7,716 cases are considered recovered. One more person has died from COVID-19, according to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, meaning 158 Albertans have died from the disease.

The province also surpassed a total of a half-million tests processed for COVID-19 as of Wednesday’s update, as 500,203 tests have now been processed since the onset of the pandemic. 35,114 Northern Albertans have been tested since March.

As of July 7, 55 Albertans are in hospital with COVID-19, with seven of those admitted into ICU. Two people in the North Zone are in hospital, none of whom are in ICU.
